I got a ton of questions about my preferred brand of protein powder at the Live the Smart Way Expo last weekend, so I thought I would post about it so I could cover all of the questions I got in one go. Since my family is dairy-free, I personally use a vegan protein powder. My favourite brand is Genuine Health. I really like all of their products, but my favourite is their fermented vegan proteins+ because its easy to digestion (no bloating), more bio-available, and great for promoting good gut health. It also tastes great, which is very important to me.
Just as importantly, the folks at Genuine Health have really strict standards when it comes to third party testing, quality control, and clear labelling policies. Plus, they give back to the community and of course, they are Canadian! So, they are my top choice when it comes to vegan protein powders. I just wish they would hurry up and create mocha, cinnamon, and peanut butter varieties (hint, hint Genuine Health)!
Now, if I were to choose a whey protein powder, I would look for one sourced from grass-fed cows (Australian or New Zealand whey powders are a good place to start looking), with no artificial sweeteners, colours, or flavours and no genetically modified ingredients. Of course, I look for all of these things in all of the supplements that I choose. Now before someone asks, I use supplements to supplement real, whole foods. So whole food first, supplements second.
